Field Notes

Description:

Hummingbird...red dot on it's chin.

Habitat:

Madeira, Ohio (just Northeast of Cincinnati)

Notes:

We see these hummingbirds regularly at our flower boxes and our Rose of Sharon plants. This one snuck up on me while I was sitting on the deck.

Actually, I think it is an Anna's hummingbird (female)...the following description is for the female: "Adult female: Green back, grayish-white breast, white throat with some red spots, white tips on outer tail feathers." The red spot seems less like ruby-throated and more like Anna's. Wikipedia site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna%27s_Hummingbird The are not a regular in Ohio but they have been sited there at times.
