Description:

A short shrub with deep purple berries emerging out of a red papery skin.

Habitat:

Found in a moist aspen grove in western Montana. Adjacent to a creek.

The berry looks almost identical, though your leaf is serrated. I googled the scientific name you have posted and the results seem quite different than mine, but it seems that there is quite a bit of variety in the species.
