Field Notes

Description:

A plasmodial slime mold with a worldwide distribution. Often found on bark mulch in urban areas after a heavy rain.

Habitat:

Despite all habitat descriptions I have found, I actually spotted this on a downed tree in a forested upland area in east-central Alabama. The soil was extremely dry. I could definitely be wrong about the species... if so, I'm always open for ID help!

Notes:

AKA dog vomit slime mold, but I prefer the scrambled egg option myself :)
