Description:

This gorgeous big brown moth has a wingspan of 10 cm (3.9 inches).
Found this info ... which also explains why I wondered if it was a butterfly at first:
"Erebus terminitincta is an impressive large moth. It has dark brown wings with large eye spots and a broad white band that curves round the centre of the fore wings and rear wings. The eyes are prominent and antennae are filaments held out in front. It has a fluttering flight and moves like a large black and white butterfly."

Hi Annvan. I think you noticed the flight very well. I didn't do that, may be that's why it was ok for me. From now on I'll notice their flying patterns too. Thanks for info. :)

Hi Harsha! I think it was o.k. health-wise (although a lot of moths I see here seem pretty battered by our current rainy season). Apparently the way this moth flies is one of its unique characteristics: "It has a fluttering flight and moves like a large black and white butterfly." (See info above.)

Mine was flying like a moth and near the lights at night..so I had no doubt. This one could be in a bad health if it was not flying that well.
