Description:

The Virginia rail is a medium-sized wading bird with a decurved bill. Reddish body, legs, and bill. The cheeks are gray. The flanks are banded black and white. Sexes are similar. Short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K0AYpa3vUY

Habitat:

Spotted in a wetland with reeds and cattails at Flaming Geyser State Park.

Thank you so much arne.roysland. You are so right about the wind. The stars lined up for me on this spotting. The Virginia rail is a rather difficult one to find. It hides well in the reeds and cattails.
These are great pictures, Brian. When the wind is calm you get beautiful mirror images of the bird in the water.
