Field Notes

Description:

The Malayan Flaying Fox is the largest species of the megabat. It is a fruit bat (see picture) & doesn't have echolocation capability as used by the smaller insect eating bats. Notice the claws on its feet & the claw on its wing. Spotted in captivity.

Habitat:

Tropical and sub-tropical forests. Found in the Indo-Pacific region.

Notes:

Near threatened.

I never new about the megabats before I saw these. It wasn't until I was researching for this spotting that I realized that these did not have echolocation. Oh the things that you learn...
