Field Notes

Description:

A large tree with pin like leaves which helps it tolerate snow, the fruit is often coloured and used as a decorative article by locals. In India there is large scale removal of oil from the tree which slowly dries and kills the whole tree. Maybe introduction of proper techniques is required to help save the trees. Usually the tree is scratched at the bottom on one side this side gives oil for 2 years min. then the other side is scratched and so on . After the third side is scratched and the oil is removed, the tree becomes useless for the collectors and eventually dies. Very sad.

Habitat:

Found almost in entire North Indian mountain forests.
