Description:
According to Wikipedia, they have an average diameter of between 10 to 20 cm in most cases, although specimens as large as 30 cm have been known.
The bell of each jellyfish is a blue-purple in colour- although they can be pale yellow, grey or light blue- and each possesses 4 wrinkly mouth arms and many stinging tentacles.
(I included my foot for scale next to the smaller of the two organisms. Touching them with hands or feet is however not recommended!)
Habitat:
Off the west coast of Scotland, in the North Sea and in the Irish Sea. Generally found around the British Isles.
These specimens were washed up on one of the beaches along the Cornish coast.
Notes:
I'm almost positive about my ID for this species, but do leave suggestions in case you think C. lamarckii is wrong.
