Field Notes

Description:

One large and one small wasps mating. Both red and black. The larger male can fly but the female has no wings. I'm also curious about the activity here. How does she feed? Drink? Is that droplet under the male abdomen part of the story? Male about 35mm long, fem about 12mm.

Habitat:

On eucalyptus leaves in a public nature reserve.

nice find, currently i have swarms of black flower wasps at my work - photos will be up soon - and im trying to find the same sort of coupling
Apparently he feeds her and looks after her... but yes not much fun flying backwards everywhere.
I feel sorry for the female. :D
