Field Notes

Description:

Redish brown with large fan side fins, also called a Gurnard. Sea robins have sharp spines on their gill plates and dorsal fins that inject a mild poison, causing slight pain for two to three days.

Notes:

We let it go. No fish were harmed during the taking of these pictures. We used un-pointed hooks.

I've caught these many times, and yes they walk on the sea bottom with those "legs", they also make a grunting noise when caught.
With these shots, I can safely say, "I've seen it all." Amazing find!
Whoa! What a crazy strange fish! Like a living evolution relic!
