Field Notes

Habitat:

Hickory nuts and egg-corns are starting to drop out of the trees, an indication of an early winter, so says the locals.

Notes:

People in the south use hickory nuts in the fire while cooking, Hams and other meats. It gives the meat a very nice flavor. The deers, wild hogs, birds and squirrels use this as a food supply in the winter. So we, don't gather many nuts for our own use. "We leave the nuts for the wildlife to eat".
