Field Notes

Description:

This little guy took up residence in our mailbox… Yikes! He later had to move out.

Habitat:

We live in the Chihuahuan desert region (high desert) east of Las Cruces, NM. The spider probably was enjoying the shade and wind protection of our mailbox, so decided to stay.

Notes:

We didn’t even know there are Brown Widows… Glad we were able to ID it and become aware of the potential danger, as they’re also poisonous like their black cousins.
