I found it by the Withlachoochee River area under a tree, near the picnic tables. I have seen it before in the sandhill areas near the Gulf of Mexico when I used to hike around , looking for Indian mounds over in the Pasco County area. Near the Gulf coast.Here is a good website for this flower, http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/butterflies/plants/green_eyes.htm This web site says it flowers all year. It is a small plant 3-5 inch's tall, that is easily overlooked, the flower heads were drooping down. It is in your zone 9-11, so if you have a nature area that's sandy I think you would find them. :)
I know they exist, but I have never see one. did you find it in a field?
