This little guy nearly met an untimely end as he was so well camouflaged on our aggregate driveway I nearly trod on him!

Added to NWF mission for its innovative defense. The toads parotoid glands produce a poisonous secretion that helps to defend the toad from predators. This substance, which is called bufotoxin, can cause death in small animals and allergic reactions in humans.
Thanks Lisa! I have updated the ID. We are about to dig some ponds so hopefully we will get to see more frogs & toads around in the future.
Karen, Nice photo! This appears to be a large American Toad (Anaxyrus americanus). The Southern Toad does not occur in Tennessee. Additionally, the Genus Bufo is now reserved for Old World species. Keep em coming :-) Lisa
