Common Gray or Cope's Gray Treefrog
Hyla versicolor or Hyla chrysoscelis
40.8838, -74.4815
Field Notes
Description:
This guy is young, only about 1". Greenish to brown to gray, with several dark blotches on the back. Slightly rough skin. Underside of thighs bright yellow orange. The two species are only distinguishable by chromosome count. Cope's have 1/2 as many as Common Grays.
Habitat:
Trees & shrubs.
Notes:
They seem to prefer the wild grape vines at the edge of my yard. I think it may have to do with the large ant & insect population in the vines. I've seen them on my yard for years.
