Field Notes

Description:

It was about two inches big, the back sparkled when light reflected it. The rest of him was black with a brown marking on its head.

Habitat:

Dark, outside of my apartment.

Notes:

Everytime I would get close to it and took the picture, the flash would make its back (for lack of a better term) sparkle or reflect the light. I had to take several photos in order for it to not do that. I thought reluse but Ive never seen a back like that or a spider for that matter. Could those be eggs? babies? Idk except that it was weird and sitting next to my neighbors foot outside.

I thought that I had read that one bite would make the skin die. I need to do a little more research I guess. We save everything from a moth to a wasp, as long as its not trying to attack us. My neighbor is officially freaked out. I'm surprised that she didn't step on it by accident or bite her. It was chillin next to her foot.
Never mind I just did some research and turns out that wolf spiders are capable of biting with venom, just it's far less potent than many more dangerous species. However, they are generally non-aggressive and won't bite unless provoked. As long as the spider stays outside and you be careful, nothing harmful should occur.
Well remember, this spider is carrying perhaps hundreds of babies and is not venomous. Just do as you normally do and don't hurt her :)
Thank you. I just looked it up and it looks like she is pregnant and the reflection are the babies... it creeps me out a little since I have a little girl. I typically do not harm nature unless its trying to hurt us but maybe I should have killed it. :( I dont know if I could bring myself to it or not.
Looks like some sort of wolf spider (Family Lycosidae). Don't know which species though
