Field Notes

Description:

This is a Medium size bird, about 28 cm long and weighs 55 grams. it has and very long tail. The wings are long with rounded tip. It is the most common nighthawks on rural roads

Habitat:

They live in savannas, grasslands, secondary forest, edges of forests and coffee plantations

Notes:

When incubating the male distracts potential predators, wings flapping and making moves that give the impression that the bird is wounded and helpless, that way the predator is taken away from the nest. The chicks go unnoticed in the soil through their camouflage.
