p,young you found Lotus Lilies like the ones at our library pond! You know they are Lotus if you see both the flowers and Leaves above the water. I think the only reason we might get close to them in Florida is our water level is down, but I am sure the above is good advice.
Yes... Many people died with that trying to collect Lotus flowers here in India.

Do not do this again alone...be with somebody... Their marshes gallops people if jammed in their webs. Be prepared and cautious...!!
I walked right up to them today! Lol My daughter wants to know if the the plant eats people or is it a legend or some sort?
Try to be there in boat when its full with water to go close.

Why cant I go inside the web by walking?
Not Lily... as Nelumbo counted in climbers. Nymphaea counted in herbs...so called Lily. Nelumbo is pure climber. Do not try to go in their webs inside lake by walking.
Thank You for the Id, So is this is a lotus? Not a water lily?
