Field Notes

Description:

16 inches (40 cm), including the tail. Creamy whitish with a tan or brown reticulated pattern on the back and sides. Down the center of the back is a row of slightly enlarged, keeled scales. Rows of brown spots are on the tail, equal length as body. The belly is pale.

Habitat:

Dry sandy areas dominated by Creosote Bush.

Notes:

Most of the burrows I've seen the Desert Iguanas disappear into are under Creosote Bushes. The only thing I've seen them eat is the Creosote flower, as seen by the third photo.
These are one of my very favorite desert critters.
