Field Notes

Description:

Large Net-winged Beetles of the Family Lycidae, male (1cm) and female (1.3cm). These beetles are often the models for moth mimics because of their toxicity. See this spotting for one of the moth mimics: https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/437606002/fullscreen. The mimicry is so good that it often requires a close examination. I can't tell whether this is C. discrepans or C. reticulatum, they look alike in pictures.

Habitat:

Chorreadero Waterfall Park, Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, Mexico
