Field Notes

Description:

Starling-sized wader with uniformly brown upper parts and white underparts, with a black patch at the top of the legs. Beak curves slightly downwards.

Habitat:

Breeds on low or high ground, in wet short-grass or tundra habits. Most commenest small wader in the region, found in a variety of marshy or coastal habitats, but most numerous on tidal flats or banks of seaweed on shallow shores.

Notes:

Photographed in the Rio Formosa National Park, on the salt flats.
