I'm presuming this is a cultivar there; it was exported from its home (Oregon) to Europe in the 1800's. It sure looks like our state plant! And, if it is, the berries are edible.
Not sure on the species, but I think it is in the genus Mahonia which some argue should be included in the barberry genus, Berberis.
