Field Notes

Description:

Small butterfly with a wingspan of 25 mm. Its upper wings are a lively orange with intricate black markings, while the underside of its wings are a dark moss-green with silvery markings; hence the common name.

Notes:

Found this one on quite a high altitude while hiking in the mountains of Austria.

I just noticed a bad link in my suggestion. The forum obviously cancelled the possibility to add direct picture links due to system problems. Here would be the complete link: http://www.lepiforum.de/cgi-bin/lepiwiki.pl?Argynnis_Aglaja
Thank you Bayucca for the information and the link! You are right indeed. Since I'm not really a butterfly expert, it's always very nice if someone can help me with the ID identification. The german translation is also kind of you but I don't live in Austria, I was just on vacation over there :)
It is Dark Green Fritillary oder bei dir heisst er Grosser Perlmuttfalter. All of these butterflies looks at first sight all almost equal and sometimes only some tiny little differences decide about the species. If you look ath the above link you may see the important criteria: 3rd black from the right on the forewing is smaller, also the 3rd spot from the middle/body on the hindwing is smaller. Above this row of spots you see some slightly brighter and oval area. You have no spots at the margin but little triangular-like bows on both wings. http://www.lepiforum.de/cgi-bin/lepiwiki.pl?Argynnis_Aglaja
Thanks Pochempie and CarolSnowMilne! ^ ^
