Field Notes

Description:

Small, green spittlebug nymph. After hatching, nymphs cover themselves in a frothy "spit" made of tiny bubbles. The bubbles protect them from drying out and makes it difficult for predators to find them. Adult spittlebugs are called froghoppers.

Habitat:

Spotted in a meadow at Pratt Nature Center.
