Field Notes

Description:

I found this large spider on the muddy banks of a river.

Habitat:

In mixed conifer forest along the bank of a river.

Notes:

I'm actually not quite sure if this is a grass spider or wolf, but given its location that was my assumption. So any arachnid experts out there, can you help me identify this specimen?

This is a wolf spider, family Lycosidae. I'm not sure of the genus. The eye arrangement, clearly shown in your image, easily separates the two families.
