Field Notes

Description:

Fairly large duck (some 60 cm in length) with long neck and long dark legs. Body predominantly orange-brown, while the head and neck are much paler, cinnamon buff in color, with white face. The beak is dark brown to blackish. The bird pictured here must be a juvenile, as adults develop a black neck ring in summer.

Habitat:

Here seen in shallow wetlands - (not in cage) in and around a Bird Park Villars-les-Dombes, in a marshy area of Dombes; France.

Notes:

Also known as Brahminy duck in India.
