Field Notes

Description:

Juvenile Bald Eagle - Dark Brown patterned with white. It takes 5 years to obtain adulthood with white head and tail, and yellow beak.

Notes:

Because of the mostly yellow beak and amount of white on head and tail, I'd estimate this juvenile to be about 4 years old.

Here is this years chick for comparison... all brown feathers, brown eyes, gray/brown beak http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7104224 I haven't seen a 4+ year old with the white beginning to fill in ... thanks! Perhaps that is because my observations are near a nest an almost mature eagles are chased off?
