This is a tree.there is a taller one beside it covered in Japanese beetles.I's leaves when crushed smile like citrus.

Sassafrass- Sassafrass albidum. If you crush up a piece of one of the leaves it will smell like Fruit Loops and the inner bark will smell like root beer.
