Japanese Beetle
Popillia japonica
45.0024, -93.1248
Field Notes
Description:
This beetle, with its copper-colored wing covers and iridescent thorax and head, is about 15 millimetres (0.6 in) long. Several white spots along both sides of the abdomen make this species easy to identify.
Habitat:
In North America, this invasive exotic can be a major pest in gardens, although they are relatively well-controlled in their native Japan by predators. These two were photographed on a clethera.
