Field Notes

Description:

I found this very unusual caterpillar while making my field-runs about two years ago and no one has been able to tell me what it is. Can you help me identify this caterpillar?

Habitat:

Desert arroyo on a branch of what looks like a 'Mahonia haematocarpa' (Barberry sp.)

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (1)

I have been searching around for an ID on this beautiful caterpillar. So far, no match, but it does strongly resemble in body shape, many species of Prominent Moth caterpillars Family Notodontidae.
