Field Notes

Description:

This little spider had a rounded abdomen, about 5 mm wide, with minute white and dark brown flecks. Legs were brown with pale bands.
Could not see the cephalothorax as it was "buried" in the axil.

Habitat:

Spotted on a eucalyptus tree in a national park.

Notes:

I could not encourage the spider to move because the more I tried the harder it tried to hide it's front end. I had to leave him alone. Probably a a little orb weaver - Araneus species. Looked a little like a fat Tick. Need to look for an ID.
