Description:

An Eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly eating animal excrement, possibly raccoon droppings. This individual is a female, as indicated by the blue and orange markings on the lower edge of its hindwings. Butterflies are beautiful, but I must admit I’ll never look at butterflies the same way as I did before this experience!

Habitat:

Huntley Meadows Park, a 1,425 acre wetland area in Fairfax County, Virginia USA. Related Resource: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/huntley/
