Field Notes

Description:

Plump, broad body, short tail and round head. Sooty-grey body and black head with a white bill and white frontal plate.

Habitat:

Breeds on lakes and slow rivers with ample vegetation but also open-water areas. Nest on piles of dead reeds at reedbed edge, often fairly visible.
