Description:

A very unique, edible fungus (there is not much to eat though). Its usually found in troops in mountain or near-mountain forests.

You are definitely right! What is also amazing is the unbelievable diversity of the fungus. It can be very hard to identify a find, especially if there are many subspecies. Thanks for the info, shebebusynow, I updated the name :)

It always amazes me that fungus can look so alike on opposite sides of the planet. I just found this same mushroom (which, btw, is in its own genus now, Alloclavaria) on a grassy hill near conifers in Oregon, growing in a very pronounced fairy ring. It's never fruited there before (it's on a neighbor's lawn that is closely watched).
