Field Notes

Description:

At first I thought this was a fake owl placed on a house to keep away pigeons. Then it turned its head!
"Found from the Arctic tundra to the tropical rainforest, from the desert to suburban backyards, the Great Horned Owl is one of the most widespread and common owls in North America."
The Great Horned Owl is the only animal that regularly eats skunks.

Habitat:

Found in a wide variety of habitats, but prefers open and secondary-growth woodlands and agricultural areas.
Also in boreal forest, desert, and suburban and urban areas.

The locals tell me that there are also screech owls in my area - havent heard or seen them yet. Cant wait though!!
Great sighting. They've been really vocal in the woods around my house lately, but I haven't been able to get a look at one yet.
it is a great sight to see 8BitFinch! I hope you share the experience.
Owls are so beautiful!! Years ago as a child I would see small owls that lived in Burrows in the meadows here in Florida, and I fell in love with owls.
Thanks so much p.young713! it was such a wonderful spotting - my first owl besides a zoo owl
