Field Notes

Description:

Pronghorn antelope are an ungulate that live on the plains of the west. They can run up to 60 mph. Running is their defense mechanism--they just run if anyone or anything starts coming too close. Over the years, they are adapting to living in towns as more and more people move into their territories. Antelope are smaller than most deer--less than 100 lbs. They graze on weeds and sagebrush.

Habitat:

Open sagebrush areas of the west. The pronghorns are adapting to living more in the towns, but prefer large open expanses of sagebrush.
