Field Notes

Description:

Body approx. 20cm, black/charcoal with white belly, tail at least as long as the body.

Habitat:

Forests and nearby clearings.

Notes:

There is another (apparently) species around here that looks similar but smaller and with tufted ears. I'm assuming they're different species, but maybe it's the same species and it's not tufted year-round. Not sure.

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (1)

This may be a common eastern grey squirrel, but with excess melanin (this sometimes happens in squirrels, making them black).
