Field Notes

Description:

Frog chowing down on another frog. I did a little snooping online in this is apparently pretty rare; and I am definitely not familiar with a cannibal frog in Vermont. I shot several leopard frogs this day, but these did not look like leopards.

Habitat:

Swamp and marshy area surround by thick woods. These guys were haning in a shallow pond, at least a dozen frogs all together. August, so it was hot and muggy, but it was Vermont, so not too muggy.

thanks - I was unaware of that mission. It's going in there now
This spotting could go in the Hunters and Animal Feeding Behaviors mission.
Wow, interesting shots! Maybe it's a French frog! (the French are partial to frogs legs!)
good call thanks. I was trying to look up "cannibal frogs" and stuff, it was a lot simpler than I thought
It is a Green Frog, Rana clamitans. It's not unusual for frogs in this family to eat other frogs.
