Field Notes

Description:

I am leaning toward the Indo-Pacific house gecko, Hemidactylus garnotii, rather than Hemidactylus frenatus, the Asian house gecko.

Habitat:

Lives in houses and other buildings within a large yard and garden, near a patch of disturbed remnant lowland forest, in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

Geckos recorded at this location so far, include: Hemidactylus frenatus, H. platyurus, H. garnotii (?), Lepidodactylus lugubris and Gekko vittatus.

Yes it is, as I said (meant) in my description, a melanistic Hemidactylus frenatus (as opposed to another species) :-)
I looked at house gecko images and this individual is very dark, i'd say Melanistic.
