Description:

golf ball sized growth on staghorn sumac with hole in the top. inside was white fluffy substance and lots of aphids

Habitat:

temperate forest, staghorn sumac

Notes:

I've never seen anything like this. I saw this at Baden Powell park. I had to open one of these pods to see what was inside.
