Description:

I believe this is a digger wasp--possibly Sphex ichneumoneus (Great Golden Digger Wasp). Please correct me if I am wrong. It was in my garden on the mint blossoms. It scared me at first, but I managed to get some photos.

Habitat:

Urban herb garden.

Yes, and I am in Michigan-quite a distance from you. The mint came in bloom in my garden about 1.5 weeks ago, this is the first time I've seen this wasp.
I love the site to Ernie! Interesting that we both spotted them on mint blossoms!
Me too! http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/12740110 It was too cool to pass up. Love this site. Ernie Delemeester
