Hi Robert, I know this is an older submission but I just came across it. It is beautiful. However, the scientific name you have for this Mantid (Sphodromantis viridis ) is for the Giant African Mantis. Sphodromantis viridis does not occur in the United States and has a different appearance. Your beautiful mantid is most likely a Chinese Mantis and most certainly a female (you can tell by the enlarged abdobmen).
