Description:

They're common. Grass blades with spiky ball things on them. See them everywhere. Would really like to know what type of grass this is :)

I bet. Now I wanna eat one. This one was actually in my planter with Basils.
The little tubers they produce are actually pretty tasty. Too bad they can get kind of weedy and invasive.
That's a sedge. There are literally hundreds of species, but I'll go out on a limb and suggest that it's Chufa, or Nutsedge, Cyperus esculentus. http://www.missouriplants.com/GSR/Cyperus_esculentus_page.html
