Field Notes

Description:

Small White is the name, not just the description. It's actually got a bit of yellow to it, and a tiny bit of orange tint on the top edge of the wing. The black spot is on the underside, and the tips of the forewings are black or grey.

Habitat:

This is a very fast-flittery-flyer and it stayed in place for about 1 second then off to another flower. It finally found these Salvias and stayed put long enough for me to get a couple of pictures.

Ha ha... "The Small White (Pieris rapae) is a small- to medium-sized butterfly species of the Yellows-and-Whites family Pieridae. It is also commonly known as the Small Cabbage White and in New Zealand simply as white butterfly.[1] The names "Cabbage Butterfly" and "Cabbage White" can also refer to the Large White." So the names mean the same butterfly. Sheeze...I need to read better.
http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/Pieris-rapae Mick, what do you think about this link...that's why I went with small white. But I'm still looking.
Mick, I started with a male cabbage, but then it looked more like the Small White. I'll look again.
