Red-veined darter

The male has pale pterostigma surrounded by black veins, the bottom of the eyes blue or gray and a red abdomen, like the veins present in the wings (the base of the forewing is yellow). In females this red color is replaced by yellow in both the abdomen and wing veins, as occurs with immature males (though with a little more red).
In both sexes, legs are mostly black with some yellow.
The normal flight period is from May to October.
This is a territorial species.,
After copulation the female abdomen plunges into the water and lays eggs. Larvae develop rapidly and the species may have more than one generation per year.
