Malabar Whistling Thrush
Myophonus horsfieldii
10.0889, 77.0595
Field Notes
Description:
From far it looks like a slender crow but once the light strikes the feathers, the blue colour almost glows. Yet black is part of the plumage too. the head is black and it also has a black bib. Thin beak.
Habitat:
Spotted this in a cardamom plantation in Munnar, Kerala, India.
Notes:
This bird whistles most melodiously. It used to be our wake up call at dawn. It is wary yes, but it came quite close and was once or twice spotted foraging along with its mate. I could not make out any difference between the individuals of the pair.
