Field Notes

Description:

Black body with yellow spots and stripes.

Habitat:

This guy was caught in a snake trap a graduate student is using for his Master's work. He was brought back to school to be measured and marked, then taken back and released near the trap to continue his life.

Notes:

This is the only species of salamander that is in the TX panhandle, and I can't find one. I only saw this guy the day he was at school and photographed him there, so he doesn't count for my life list since I didn't see him in the wild. Maybe next season :/

Thanks Antonio and Juan! I was very surprised when I found out how few salamanders are in the tropics, I guess I always assumed there were a lot because it's so humid there. If it makes you feel any better, I am terrible at finding them and haven't seen very many
