They are not agressive. I do pet them on occasion.

JUst LOVE this picture, how amazing !!
This is actually an Eastern Carpenter Bee, Xylocopa virginica. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_carpenter_bee) The head shape is a bit different than that of bumble bees, and the scopa or pollen basket is shaped differently as well. If you could see this lovely lady's abdomen it would be a shiny black rather than a hairy black or yellow of the bumble bee.
