Description:

The Nankeen Night Heron grows to about 60cm in length. It is not strictly nocturnal. Ive often seen itfeed during the day, especially during wet weather. The bird is dependent on a diet of small fish, reptiles, insects and sometimes eggs. This one shared a tree with about 10 others

Habitat:

It can be seen around freshwater rivers, lakes, bulrushes, estuaries, harbors and in residential fishponds for goldfish.
