Large butterfly raised from a found caterpillar. The butterfly was black, with yellow spots on the ends of it's wings. It started from a chubby black caterpillar that had red spots. These butterflies were all over during the begining of summer. Possibly a Mourning Cloak butterfly?

Whittier, California

definitely a mourning cloak. Saw my first one in years today. I was pretty excited, but he stayed out of my camera range. Hopefully my husband managed to get a snapshot
